May Monthly: Get Honest About What’s Driving You

May Monthly: Get Honest About What’s Driving You

Hello May banner with soft pastel sky background and minimalist green typography for astrology or lifestyle blog

There’s a lot building under the surface this month.

And with the Full Moon at the very start of May, some of that doesn’t stay under the surface for long.

Not just emotions, but reactions. Frustration. The urge to push, prove, or defend something.

And if you’re not paying attention, it shows up in ways you don’t intend.

You snap quicker. You take things more personally. You feel impatient over things that normally wouldn’t get to you.

This month isn’t here to calm everything down.

It’s here to show you what’s actually driving you.

Don't hold back...

If this Full Moon is already hitting and you can feel something coming up, don’t ignore it.

This is what my Full Moon readings are for. We look at what’s being revealed and get clear on what’s actually going on beneath the reaction.

Monthly Theme

May is about getting honest about your motivation.

Not what you say you want. Not what looks good. But what is actually fueling your actions right now.

There’s a difference between moving with intention and reacting out of pressure, ego, or frustration. And this month will make that difference very obvious.

  • You might notice moments where you feel the urge to push harder, argue your point, or prove something.

  • You’re in a conversation, and suddenly it turns into needing to be right instead of trying to understand.

  • You set a goal, but the energy behind it feels tense instead of grounded, like you’re trying to catch up or make up for something.

That matters more than the action itself.

Because when your drive is coming from pressure, nothing feels steady. It feels urgent, forced, and exhausting.

May is asking you to pause long enough to actually notice that.

Not to stop moving. But to stop moving from the wrong place.

What You May Be Experiencing

Emotionally, things can feel more reactive than usual.

You might feel irritated over small things that normally wouldn’t bother you. Your patience may be shorter, especially when something feels unfair or out of your control.

For example, someone says something slightly off, and instead of letting it go, you replay it later and build a whole response in your head.

That buildup is the point. That’s what needs your attention.

In relationships, tension can show up in subtle but real ways.

Conversations turn defensive without you planning for them to. You feel like you have to explain yourself more or protect your position instead of just speaking.

A simple disagreement can turn into a back-and-forth about who’s right, when that was never the point.

There are also moments where your ego gets involved quietly.

You feel the need to win, to prove something, or not to back down, even when it’s not that serious.

And underneath all of that, there’s something softer.

Self-doubt. Old insecurities. Feeling misunderstood.

You’ll notice it when something small hits harder than it should.

That’s not random. That’s something deeper asking to be acknowledged instead of ignored.

Remember These Key Astrology Dates

May 2026 calendar with emerald gemstone theme highlighting key astrology dates and lunar events

May 4: Mars squares Jupiter

This is where the intensity starts.

There’s a strong push to go after what you want, but it can come with impatience and impulsiveness.

In real life, this looks like reacting too quickly. You send a message without thinking it through. You push a situation further than it needs to go. You get frustrated when things don’t move fast enough.

For example, you’re waiting for a response and when it doesn’t come, you feel the urge to follow up immediately or assume something is off.

This energy isn’t bad, but it needs direction.

If you don’t give it somewhere to go, it turns into unnecessary conflict or decisions you regret later.

May 7: New Moon in Taurus

This is your reset point.

But not in a dramatic way. In a real, practical way that forces you to look at what is actually sustainable.

This brings your attention to things like your finances, your routine, and how you’re using your time and energy.

In real life, this could look like checking your spending and realizing you’ve been avoiding it. Or noticing that your routine only works when you’re forcing yourself to keep up with it.

You might feel the urge to fix everything at once. Don’t.

That’s how you burn out and end up right back where you started.

May 16: Mars conjunct Chiron

This is where things get personal.

Underneath the frustration or defensiveness, something more sensitive is being touched.

In real life, this can look like feeling hurt by something that seems small on the surface. A comment sticks with you longer than it should. A situation triggers insecurity you thought you had already worked through.

For example, you feel triggered in a conversation and your first instinct is to react or shut down.

Instead, pause.

There’s something deeper there that needs your attention.

Also, be mindful of how you speak to others. People are more sensitive right now, even if they’re not showing it.

May 21: Sun enters Gemini

There’s a shift here.

Things start moving faster mentally. Conversations pick up. Your mind starts jumping between ideas, options, and possibilities.

In real life, this can look like overthinking conversations, responding too quickly, or saying things before you’ve fully processed them.

You might also feel pulled in different directions or more easily distracted.

This is where your awareness matters.

Because with everything else happening this month, reacting too quickly can create unnecessary tension.

May 23: Full Moon in Sagittarius

This is your clarity point.

Something becomes obvious, whether you’re ready for it or not.

In real life, this could look like realizing a plan you’ve been holding onto doesn’t actually feel right anymore. Or having a conversation that completely shifts how you see someone.

You might also recognize that something you’ve been tolerating no longer makes sense for you.

This can feel uncomfortable, especially if you’ve invested time or energy into it.

But this kind of clarity is necessary.

May 25: Mars square Pluto

This is where power struggles peak.

You might feel the urge to control a situation, push your point, or not back down in a conversation.

In real life, this looks like arguments escalating quickly or you pushing yourself harder even when you’re already drained.

For example, you get into a disagreement and instead of letting it go, you keep going because you need to win.

Or you keep pushing yourself to do more because stopping feels like failure.

This is where you need to check yourself.

Not everything is a battle.

How This Month May Show Up for Your Rising Sign

Aries Rising: This hits your sense of direction and pressure to prove yourself. You might push harder around work or money just to feel like you’re doing enough. For example, taking on more than you need to just to feel productive. Stay honest about your intention. You don’t need to prove anything right now.

Taurus Rising: This is personal. You may feel more defensive or sensitive to how others respond to you. A small comment can feel like criticism, and you immediately want to shut it down. Pause before reacting. Not everything is an attack.

Gemini Rising: This plays out internally. You might overthink more or revisit situations you thought you were done with. For example, replaying conversations and getting irritated without fully understanding why. Sit with it instead of distracting yourself.

Cancer Rising: This shows up in friendships. You may notice where things feel one-sided. You stop reaching out, and suddenly things go quiet. That’s clarity. Don’t rush to fix it.

Leo Rising: This hits your work and responsibilities. You may feel pressure to keep pushing even when you’re tired. For example, forcing productivity when you actually need rest. Be honest about what’s sustainable.

Virgo Rising: This challenges your perspective. You might feel the need to be right in conversations. A discussion turns into proving your point instead of listening.Ask yourself if that’s actually helping.

Libra Rising: This goes deeper emotionally. You may try to control outcomes or get clarity from others by pushing harder. Let go of control. It’s not giving you what you need.

Scorpio Rising: This shows up in your relationships. Tension or power dynamics can surface. A conversation turns into a standoff where no one wants to back down. Choose what’s worth your energy.

Sagittarius Rising: This plays out in your daily life. Small responsibilities may feel heavier than usual. You get frustrated over things that normally feel manageable. Adjust instead of forcing.

Capricorn Rising: This affects how you express yourself. You might put pressure on things that are supposed to feel enjoyable. Let things be imperfect.

Aquarius Rising: This hits your personal and emotional space. Old reactions may come up unexpectedly. Recognize where it’s coming from.

Pisces Rising: This shows up in communication. You might assume tone or intention and react too quickly. Slow down and ask for clarity.

Monthly Ritual

At the end of each day, take five minutes and be honest with yourself.

Think back on your day and pick one moment where you reacted.

Just one.

Break it down:

  • What actually happened

  • What you felt in that moment

  • What you did next

  • What was really underneath it

For example, you got annoyed at someone for not replying. But underneath that, you felt ignored or unimportant.

That’s the real information.

Then ask yourself:

If I could respond again, what would I do differently?

You’re not trying to be perfect. You’re building awareness.

And the more you practice this, the faster you’ll catch yourself in real time.

Journal Prompts

  • Where is my energy coming from right now, intention or reaction?

  • What am I trying to prove, and do I actually need to?

  • What would change if I responded instead of reacted?

Take the first step NOW.

Awareness is where this starts. But staying aware takes practice.

If you want support with that, my daily readings are there to help you track what’s coming up and respond differently as it happens.
